An update on the evaluation

This evaluation is closed; many thanks to those who generously contributed their time to the evaluation.

As my final project report makes reference to this evaluation, I have decided to leave this site open while my committee reviews that report.

Findings from the evaluation will be posted to my project blog, along with the final report and presentation slides: http://jennifersprojectspace.blogspot.com/

A bit about this project and the evaluation

Welcome! Below you will find a brief description of the details of my project and this evaluation.

Who am I?
I am a student at Eindhoven University of Technology, and this evaluation is part of my final industrial project. Completion of this project fullfills some of the requirements for getting a professional Doctorate in Engineering in the area of User-System Interaction.

What is the project about? And why do you want me to do this evaluation?
The goal of this project is to help mobile workers. Oftentimes mobile workers find themselves geographically removed from their colleagues. This can take a toll on the mobile worker's ability to stay connected and up-to-date with his or her colleagues.

The three concepts presented in this evaluation are meant to support mobile workers in their ability to stay connected and up-to-date.

As a mobile worker, you can provide unique insight into the usefulness of these concepts. Your opinion is of great value in this early stage of the design process.

How long will all of this take me?
Watching the three concept videos and filling out the related brief questionnaires should take approximately 20 minutes.

Who is sponsoring this project?
This project is part of an ongoing investigation into ways of working which has been undertaken by Future Workspaces. Future Workspaces is an initiative of Novay, a non-profit Dutch research institute that focuses on the use of information technology in people's lives.

Sounds great! How can I help?
Please page down to the Instructions section, or click on this link to get there.

Instructions: Evaluating three concepts

The format of the three evaluations is exactly the same. Here are detailed some instructions:
  1. First tell me a little bit about yourself by filling in the form below.
  2. Then, begin the evaluations. Please watch the movie at the beginning of each evaluation section. All three movies are each just a few minutes long and help illustrate the concepts.
  3. Following each movie there is a very brief passage for you to read, further explaning the concepts for purposes of clarification.
  4. Fill out the questionnaire -- each only contains 10 questions.
  5. Finally, if you'd like to give more detailed feedback, that would be most welcome and is highly encouraged. Include it in the comments section of the questionnaire -- or, contact me directly.
Below you will find a number of blog posts -- one for each of the steops in the evaluation that I'd like for you to do. Simply page down to get to begin the evaluations, or you can link directly to the first step here.

Happy viewing, and many thanks in advance for your help!

The movie itself is best viewed in full screen mode.

Further explanation of the concept:
The Ping! concept is an extension of a application that was prototyped and tested within Future Workspaces.

The application does not require the use of a smartphone. Localization information is provided by mobile carriers. Availability information can be drawn from your contacts' electronic agendas (e.g., in Outlook or Google calendar).

Now please fill out the related questionnaire covering this concept by paging down or clicking here.

Step 2: Concept #1 - The Evaluation

Please fill out the questionnaire below based on the concept in the movie that you just watched.

It contains only 10 questions.

Thank you for filling out this questionnaire!
